Self-management techniques:Overcoming depressive thinking

One of the best methods is to force our own selves into some kind of creative work. As depression is a state embedded with negative thinking, it will be difficult to stop those thoughts when sit idle and go on thinking meaningless things. Thoughts could be controlled by forcing our own selves into taking up some work that would be useful in some way or the other....When we progress through our work, we receive inner pleasure as those negative thoughts are unable to enter our brain on a continuous basis. Giving physical labor into some meaningful job would even be better....

physical form of work would cleanse our minds of the dirt deposited from our past deeds...it would also act as physical exercise and would fine-tune chemical balance of the body....

An idle mind is the devil's workshop....  we all know
An idle body is the storehouse of  many diseases....

Balancing our mental and physical acts is a great self-management action for a better life ahead..

Key to personal peace and happiness..

If we can work with devotion and pleasure, we shall always be happy and peaceful. Happiness lies in our inner world of thoughts and perception, not in the perception of our behavoiurs by others. But we should be self-confident about all our activities and behaviours. We also need to have a very positive self-image about our own selves and we should never compromise on that aspect.

Driving out frustration from personal and professional life....

Though difficult, driving out frustration from life requres developing a special mindset.

The best option is to continuously try to remain engaged in some work relating to self-improvement or professional up gradration.

Focus on work or quality of work that we perform eliminates mental lethargy and generates newer ideas from the experience. But idle thinking produces more negativity in the mind.

If we can combine our thoughts with actions for most of the time of day, we are in a better position to produce tangible outputs at the end of the day....

Inspiration for exceling at thepersonal level...

The biggest  input to our minds is 'inspiration' from variety of sources connected directly or indirectly with our lives....

Ultimately, that matters in driving us to act is our mindset and mental processes. Inaction is the result of mental and psychic lethargy only. To remove the shell of lethargy from the minds, we need inspirational inputs to our lives. Once we are inspired to better in lives, we get recharged to act in a meaningful manner.

To get inspired we need to have an open mind that continuously seek for those excellent sources in and around us. If we are positive in our attitudes, we absorb those virtues in our inner minds and naturally get inclined to act in similar ways in our respective domains of activities.

Basically, mind is the man. Thinking is the man that I am. My mind only drives me action.

Hence, we should continuously try to improve upon the 'quality of thinking' to better our self work-culture. We should develop our own ways of thinking in depth about anything that requires creativity and innovation. And hence, meditation could form an important component of our daily lives. Vital decisions of our lives could be taken after deep meditation on the subject as well as discussion with like-minded friends.....

QUALITY OF THINKING prepares the foundation of QUALITY OF WORK AND LIFE....
To systematize our thoughts, daily meditation & yoga would help us a lot. Yoga and mediattion would drive us to spiritual thinking and spiritual thinking leads us to peace and happiness. Prayer to God is the only way to clease our minds. A clean mind can do the miracle of  total creativity and innovation in what we do....

God Bless..

Self-management tools to ensure a happier life....

Managing the self is the ultimate challenge of any professional or personal life. The basic challenges are to stay young, mental peace and satisfaction , keeping fit, maintaining personal integrity, having time for prayer, serving others in some way as a means of serving GOD,  and a balanced interaction with people around us. Let us consider the topics one by one..

STAYING YOUNG IN BOTH BODY AND MIND....

The real secret lies in training our minds for higher thinking...

Positive thought patterns develoop positive responses in our nervous system and hence we should network with dynamic and progressive positive thinkers only...

To be involved in continous updation of knowledge, skills, and information....

To keep learning from practical life as well as from academic attachments....

Total regularity in taking physical exercise for fitness...

Being engaged in our hobbies that would give us pure pleasure....

MENTAL PEACE AND SATISFACTION..

It can only come from the good work that we do with honesty and devotion...
Real pleasure and satisfaction come from a special feeling of the inner self for creative and innovative contribution for the happiness of others....

DAILY PRAYER..
It simply cleanses our mind taht is entangled in many of the mortal sins and desires. God's blessings only can remove dirts from our greedy minds...

FITNESS...
Exercise and diet are the main components, but we should remember that mental state greatly influences the body functioning and hence yoga and mediattion are a must for real fitness and energetic existence.....

NETWORKING WITH PEOPLE...

It is always better to be choosy about mixing with people...
It is bad to talk too much in any situation....
We should master the art of saying NO to bad people around us...
Interaction with bad people generates a lot of stress in body and mind, and hence always risky at the personal level...

True Happiness...

True happiness lies in selfless giving only

Qualities of the Good managers as observed in my life...

During my tenure with GAIL(A Govt. of India U/T) I have interacted with some good managers. I learnt that 'self-discipline'  is a common quality among all good managers.

Another biggest aspect is the best of communication skills.

Some of the most impressive features  are their physical fitness, mental alertness  and power of observation of human behaviors......

One more common characteristic is the ability of taking stress and the capability of handling crisis.

Even without doing MBAs we can be good managers, if we understand the dynamics of human behaviors including universal rules for motivation,  understanding of differences in personalities, attitudes, aspirations etc......

The first and foremost thing in evolving as a good manager is attainment of higher levels of ENERGY AND ENTHUSIASM to work for cause/mission/objecitves....
Till we understand that WORK GIVES PLEASURE, SATISFACTION, HAPPINESS AND  PEACE,  we can never be good managers in our whole life....

If we enjoy our work, we are really blessed with the real happiness of living a life....

All other forms of enjoyment give us only temporary pleasure or relaxation, except the eternal pleasure of DOING OUR WORK AND ENJOYING IT AT THE SAME TIME.....

THIS ABOVE DISCOVERY TOOK 48 YEARS OF MY LIFE ....I STILL BELIEVE THAT THOUGH IT IS LATE THE SAME COULD BE ENJOYED FROM TODAY ONWARDS....

Here possibly lies the meaning of life, as revealed to me through the holy blessings of GOD...

So let us all try to realize the meaning of 'WORK IS WORKSHOP'  in our own different ways and May God bless us all.....

Leadership challenges in teaching profession...

Challenges in leadership style....

The most difficult thing in life is leading. Leading is a job that goes beyond doing. Leading is an invisible art of motivating, commanding and controlling without putting any pressure on anybody in any way. It is basically an art of behaving which displays honesty, integrity and strength before others. All these characteristics actually should originate from self-motivation, self-respect, self-confidence and self-learning. Leadership is a style getting things done through employment of skills and knowledge of others. Though a difficult task, some of the following actions could be taken at the personal level:

1. clearly indicating the preferences at the work-place
2. reinforcing the above criterion at every opportunity
3. sincere praisings for the fellow subordinates
4. showing respect for others, even when opinions vary
5.developing an atmosphere of trust and cheerfulness among all the members
6.striving for achieving excellence so that others learn from the examples set
7. shaping result-oriented daily work-routine
8. trying to finish a planned job by the end of the day

Management of Mental Fitness and its development......

Our mental fitness depends directly on the state of physical fitness, in the sense that if we are not physically fit, we can not be expected to be completely mentally fit. We need a strong body and a strong mind will automatically follow. I have experienced in many times in my personal life. Physical fitness though does not guarantee mental fitness, as mental cleasing process is also very much essential for a good body-mind relationship.
Mental fitness can be improved by taking regular yogic and breathing exercises. In addition to that, we should keep ourselves in in any form of devoted work or self-study of variety of subjects. If we are in the process of learning some new subject or make a habit of solving puzzles, brain-teasers or if we play chess, we are bound to improve our mental concentration. Mental concentration is at the heart of resolving many tough issues of life.

Higher level of concentartion will make the problem-solving process better and effective in many ways.Calmness of the mind can throw out most of the conflicts and turmoils of daily life....

Management Skills Development....

There are infinite kinds of skills, out of which managerial skills seem to be the most sought-after in any organization. A manager should be an extrovert or at least an ambivert, as he or she need to interact with infinite variety of people. There is no place for an introvert in the world of management. To be an extrovert, one must have good general knowledge and should possess a high level of common sense as well as presence of mind....
The following are the backbone of managerial skills:

1. excellent communication skills
2. good manners, etiquettes and habits
3. flawless performance
4. motivational skills
5. rapport-building
6.expert  knowledge of goods and services in a specific field
7.courage of managing crises
8. decision-making ability in any tough or tricky situation

Self-management challenges

To manage or to lead others, one should be able to manage the self in a perfect manner first. By managing the self in a planned and systematic manner, we can set examples before others and therefore creating an atmosphere of  encouraging perfection .It is really true that we can better the ways of doing things, if we try to achieve perfection in performing the job we are assigned with. Hence from onw onwards , we should always try to set a higher standard of performance for ourselves and things on all fronts will improve automatically. Behind all our imperfections and failures, we ourselves are to be blamed, as the root cause might be one or more of the following:
1. lethargy
2. procrastination
3. waste of time and energy in unproductive areas
4. lack of sense of timing
5. mismanagement of time
6. not having the tenacity and determination to complete our assignments in time

etc.etc.

Hence the biggest lesson in management and leadership should be 'striving for perfection' 'continuous practice in doing things' so that others feel motivated and inspired for achieving perfection in their own domains. We should be able to attain perfection in speaking, writing, behaving, and engaging our skills in attainign our desired objectives in both professional and personal lives

Self-motivation and productivity....

Self-motivation is at the root of all work that we do. It's a great challenge to keep ourselves motivated and inspired. Life passes through ups and downs. It's natural. But  during the period of depressive thinking, we tend to degrade ourselves if we do not network with friends who are hard-core positive thinkers. When managing things becomes more and more difficult, we should take advice and guidance from our well-wishers. Our well-wishers only can boost up our morale and put us on the right track. Otherwise, we may fall victim to obsessive depression which is harmful to both body and mind...Here mental state is the primary concern of leading a happy and balanced life. A healthy mind definitely produces positive physiological states and therefore enhancing the possibility of being in a happy condition.

Most of ailments originate from an unregulated lifestyle and mental worry or disturbances of some kind or the other. Hence controlling the mind to be in a state of peace and productive thinking is the biggest issue in practical life...

Managerial Thinking ....

Managing of human affairs is indeed a difficult task. Theoretical knowledge rarely works in practice, unless the same is modified as per real-life experiences on human interaction and its dynamics....
I have seen a good  number of good managers among my colleagues. The most common qualities among them could be summed up as follows:

1. they are systematic and methodical workers themselves
2. they can take enormous pressure
3.they are straight-forward
4.they maintain dignified distance from the colleagues
5.they speak of business only and they are focussed on their goals
6.they are all hard-working individuals with the abilities to lead...

Training in management can never be sufficient to make a person punctual, sincere, dedicated and systematic. It requires a lot of practical experience to handle situations in a 'management' way....

Health is wealth...the saying goes

It is the biggest truth I have ever found. It needs a lot of experience to realize this simple fact. My recent experience about health parameters speaks volume about the fact that without good health and fitness, we are basically nothing. Nothing good can be done without fitness. To achieve and retain fitness, a lot of tenacity and determination is required. And the most important thing about fitness work is its regularity and consistency. Till we are regular and consistent about yoga and other form of exercises, we hardly gain any appreciable effect on our health...
